Pacific Palms Primary - 2023 artist in residence
National Bird Week 2023
Liss was invited to spend a week at Pacific Palms Primary as their Artist in residence in October 2023, coinciding with National Bird Week. Working with the year 6’s, she developed a week long immersive program with a focus on local bird life - encouraging the students to discover their inner Ornithologist!
After choosing and researching their ‘spark bird’ (the bird that starts a twitcher’s journey into all things flighted or feathered) each student created an illustration of their bird, along with some interesting field guide facts, that Liss collated into a local bird guide - a year 6 publication that was a contribution to the school library! They then turned their illustrations into large painted wooden outdoor bird sculptures that were installed around the school campus. The book can now be borrowed from the library by all students, who can actively find out information on each of the bird sculptures to be found through out the school yard.
